The administration and faculty are pleased to announce the Students of Quarter for the first quarter.  Please join us in congratulating these students and their families!

Senior Logan Albers, the son of Dean and Marlene Albers of Breese.  Throughout his academic career, Logan has enrolled in a variety of honors courses, including Calculus, English Composition 101 and 102, and Physics Honors as a senior.  Outside the classroom, Logan is a four-year member of the soccer team and a three-year member of National Honor Society.  He also serves as a member of Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC) Junior Associates.  Finally, Logan is a Eucharistic Minister and youth group member at St. Boniface Catholic Church.  Following graduation, Logan plans to major in computer science.

 Senior Sarah Maller, the daughter of Peter and Marsha Maller of Troy.  Throughout her academic career, Sarah has enrolled in nearly every honors course offered, including Calculus, English Composition 101 and 102, and Physics Honors as a senior; and earned awards for her achievement in Algebra I Honors, English I Honors, Physical Science Honors, English II Honors, American History, and American Literature Honors.  In October, Sarah was recognized as a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Outside the classroom, Sarah tutors and is a four-year member of band, chorus, Liturgical Music Group, Liturgical Planning Team, the fall play, the spring musical and Teens for Life; a three-year member of National Honor Society; and a two-year member of WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering), The Knight yearbook staff, and The Lance newspaper staff.  She has also performed in Clinton County Showcase summer productions.  Finally, Sarah is a member of the choir and Luke 18 confirmation retreat teams at St. Jerome Catholic Church.  Following graduation, Sarah plans to enroll in a pre-medicine program, as she aspires to become a neurologist.

Junior Drew Potthast, the son of Dan and Sue Potthast of Beaver Prairie.  Since his freshman year, Drew has enrolled in the honors mathematics and science courses.  As a junior, in addition to Chemistry Honors and Pre-Calculus, he is enrolled in American Literature Honors, AP American History, and Composition Honors.  Outside the classroom, Drew is a three-year member of Scholar Bowl, a two-year member of chorus and National Honor Society, and a new member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  Finally, he is a server at St. Felicitas Catholic Church.

Junior Lauren Kampwerth, the daughter of Ron and Lori Kampwerth of Aviston.  Since her freshman year, Lauren has enrolled in the honors English and mathematics courses.  As a junior, in addition to American Literature Honors, Composition Honors, and Pre-Calculus, she is enrolled in Chemistry Honors.  Outside the classroom, Lauren is a three-year member of the softball team, a two-year member of National Honor Society, and a new member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Student Ambassadors, and Student Council.  She also volunteers at Aviston Nursing Home.  Finally, Lauren is a server and youth group member at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Sophomore Dennis Trickey, the son of Bill and Denise Trickey of Pierron.  Currently, Dennis is enrolled in Spanish II Honors.  Outside the classroom, he is a two-year member of Teens for Life and volunteers to count weekly mission collections during study halls.  Dennis also volunteers as a baseball coach at Highland Middle School.  Finally, Dennis is a Youth Faith Formation teacher, lector, server and youth group member at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Sophomore Carly Etter, the daughter of Mark and Fran Etter of Breese.  In addition to her current enrollment in Biology Honors, Algebra II & Trigonometry, and English II Honors, Carly enrolled in Physical Science Honors as a freshman.  Outside the classroom, Carly is a two-year member of Art Club, band, track and varsity cheerleading, for which she earned the Most Improved Award as a freshman.  She also volunteers at the Clinton County Humane Society.  Carly is a member of St. Felicitas Catholic Church.

Freshman Kyle Billhartz, the son of Ken and Cristie Billhartz of New Baden.  In his first year at Mater Dei, Kyle is enrolled in Geometry (a sophomore level course).  Outside the classroom, Kyle is a member of the football team.  He also volunteers at Aviston Nursing Home.  Kyle is a member of St. George Catholic Church.

Freshman Hannah McSparin, the daughter of Dustin and Lynn McSparin of Breese.  In her first year at Mater Dei, Hannah is enrolled in Algebra I Honors and English I Honors.  Outside the classroom, she is a member of band, The Knight newspaper staff, Liturgical Music Group and the volleyball team.  Finally, Hannah is a cantor, server and Vacation Bible School volunteer at St. Dominic Catholic Church.
