Winner of the Clinton County Scholar Bowl Tournament is the Scholar Knights varsity team that includes Mackenzie McCray, Emily Hellmann, Ellen Maue, Alex Toennies, Jon Ang, Andrew Dreas, (front) Joey Hummert, and Mary Helen Otrembiak.
On November 16, the Mater Dei Scholar Knights hosted the annual Clinton County Scholar Bowl Tournament. The Knights retained their title, going 2-1 with wins against Carlyle and Wesclin. In the first round of the round-robin style tournament, the Knights defeated Wesclin 205-90. Alex Toennies led the Knights with four toss-ups, Jon Ang had 3 toss-ups, and Mary Helen Otrembiak and Andrew Dreas added one toss-up each. In round two, Mater Dei defeated Carlyle 145-45. Alex Toennies and Mary Helen Otrembiak led the Knights with two toss-ups each, while Mackenzie McCray scored one toss-up. In the final round, Central defeated Mater Dei 150-135. Alex Toennies scored two toss-ups and Ellen Maue, Mackenzie McCray, and Andrew Dreas scored on toss-up each. The Scholar Knights finished with a record of 2-1, tied with Carlyle, and retained the championship by virtue of the head-to-head breaker. Central and Wesclin each posted records of 1-2. Mater Dei has held the title of Clinton County Champion since 2006, including 13 Championships since the tournament’s inception in 1990.
