Mater Dei sent twenty-eight students to the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) regional tournament at Kaskaskia College on Thursday, February 2. The team competed against other students in the area and came away with the regional championship.
In Biology, Jon Ang finished first and Lucas Foppe finished third. In Chemistry, Joe Kasson finished first and Kevin Garber finished third. In Computer Science, Lucas Foppe finished first and Adam Richter finished third. In English, Jon Ang finished second and Laura Schlueter finished third. In Math, Kane Weinberg finished first, Kevin Garber finished second, and Tad Logullo and Joe Kasson tied for third. In Physics, Tad Logullo finished second. Lucas Foppe also won a six credit hour scholarship.

The WYSE team advances to the sectional tournament at McKendree University on March 12, 2012. Mr. Scott Timmermann is the WYSE moderator.
