The 2021-2022 fall athletic season was phenomenal for both the Knights and Lady Knights, as all our fall athletic teams achieved success in the IHSA postseason! We congratulate both the players and the coaches for their achievements, and we thank them for their dedication!
LADY KNIGHTS VOLLEYBALL
In the IHSA Class 2A Volleyball State Finals, the Lady Knights earned fourth place, after winning the Flora Regional, Vandalia Sectional, and Nashville Super-Sectional.
The season included Tori Mohesky ’22 ending her Mater Dei volleyball career as the program’s all-time leader in career kills (1,072) and all-time leader in single-season kills (445). In addition, Tori Mohesky ’22 was named to the News-Gazette All-State First Team, and Annalyse Richter ’22 was named to the News-Gazette Honorable Mention 100.

KNIGHTS GOLF
In the IHSA Class 2A Boys Golf State Finals, the Knights earned sixth place, after winning the Salem Regional and Effingham Sectional.
The season included Carter Goebel ’22, who placed 11th at the state finals, ending his Mater Dei golf career as the 2021 Metro-East Golf Coaches Association Boys 2A All-Area Player of the Year. In addition, the 2021 Metro-East Golf Coaches Association Boys 2A All-Area Team included Zander Brueggemann ’22 (first team), Ayden Frickleton ’22 (first team), Garett Zurliene ’24 (second team), and Owen Moss ’25 (second team).

KNIGHTS CROSS COUNTRY
The Knights Cross Country team advanced to the IHSA Class 1A Boys Cross Country State Finals, where they placed 28th.

The Lady Knights Cross Country team advanced to the IHSA Class 1A Girls Cross Country State Finals, where they placed 19th.

KNIGHTS FOOTBALL
In the IHSA Class 2A Football Playoffs, the Football Knights advanced to the Elite Eight.
The season included Cameron Haag ’22 ending his Mater Dei football career as the program’s all-time leader in single-season touchdowns (28) and single-season interceptions (10). In addition, Cameron Haag ’22 and Jayce Napovanice ’22 were named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State Team.

KNIGHTS SOCCER
The Knights advanced to the IHSA Class 1A Boys Soccer Freeburg Sectional championship game, for the first time in the program’s history, after winning the Greenville Regional.
The season included Quin Rackers ’22 ending his Mater Dei soccer career as the program’s all-time leader in career assists (34) and all-time leader in single-season assists (19), and Andrew Weir ’24 ending the second season of his Mater Dei soccer career as the program’s all-time leader in single-season shutouts (14) and co-leader in career shutouts (19). In addition, Quin Rackers ’22 was named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Sectional Team, and Landon Albers ’22 was named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Sectional Honorable Mention Team.

Ava Sweeten ’25 advanced to the IHSA Class 1A Gibault Sectional. As a team, the Lady Knights placed fourth at the Althoff Regional, from which the top three teams advanced to the sectional.
