The administration and faculty are pleased to announce the Students of the Quarter for the third quarter of the 2021-2022 academic year. These students were selected by the administration and faculty from the list of students who earned high honor roll or honor roll recognition. Senior Remmie Vail III, the son of Lynn and Remmie Vail II of Breese and Kim Vail of Joliet. Since transferring to Mater Dei as a junior, Remmie has enrolled in all honors courses for English and math, including Calculus, English Composition 101, and English Composition 102, as well as Physics Honors, as a senior. For his academic achievements, he received an academic letter and awards for Advanced Placement (AP) American History and Theology III. Outside the classroom, Remmie is a two-year member of the Academic Challenge in Engineering and Science (ACES) team, Chess Club, football team, and track team; and a first-year member of National Honor Society, Scholar Bowl, and the spring musical cast. Finally, he is a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Following graduation, Remmie plans to enlist in the Air National Guard and to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to pursue a degree in systems engineering and design.
Senior Brooke Zurliene, the daughter of Brian and Janel Zurliene of Albers. Throughout her academic career, Brooke has enrolled in college-preparatory courses, including English Composition 101 and English Composition 102 as a senior. For her academic achievements, she received an award for Computer Applications. Outside the classroom, Brooke is a four-year member of the cheer team and a two-year member of Student Ambassadors. She was also elected to homecoming court as a junior. In the community, Brooke serves as an assistant coach for the Albers Elementary School-Damiansville Elementary School cheer team. Finally, she is a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where she serves as a minister of Holy Communion. Following graduation, Brooke plans to attend Kaskaskia College prior to enrolling at a four-year institution to pursue a degree in early childhood education.
Junior Ethan Toennies, the son of Roger and Gwen Toennies of Damiansville. Since his freshman year, Ethan has enrolled in all honors courses for math, including Algebra II Honors as a junior. Outside the classroom, he is a three-year member of the baseball team, a two-year member of National Honor Society, and a first-year member of Future Business Leaders of America. Finally, Ethan is a member of St. Damian Catholic Church, where he serves as an altar server and confirmation retreat leader.
Junior Megan Melone, the daughter of Peter and Courtney Melone of Trenton. Since her freshman year, Megan has enrolled in all honors courses for English, math, and science, including American Literature Honors, Chemistry Honors, Composition Honors, and Pre-Calculus as a junior. For her academic achievements, she received an academic letter and an award for Algebra I Honors. Outside the classroom, Megan is a three-year member of band (two years concert band, two years wind ensemble, three years marching band, three years pep band) and a two-year member of indoor percussion, National Honor Society, and Spanish Club. As a sophomore, she received an award for chorus. Finally, Megan is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Sophomore Wil Harris, the son of Jody and Lynnette Harris of Carlyle. In both his freshman and sophomore year, Wil has enrolled in all honors courses for English, math, and science, including Algebra II & Trigonometry Honors, Biology Honors, English II Honors, and Geometry Honors as a sophomore. For his academic achievements, he received an award for Algebra I Honors. Outside the classroom, Wil is a two-year member of the baseball team and a first-year member of Future Business Leaders of America. Finally, he is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Sophomore Emma Eversgerd, the daughter of Brad and Leslie Eversgerd of Aviston. In both her freshman and sophomore year, Emma has enrolled in college-preparatory courses, including Biology Honors and Geometry Honors as a sophomore. For her academic achievements, she received awards for Algebra I, American Government, and Physical Science. Outside the classroom, Emma is a two-year member of the basketball team, Pep Club, and the soccer team. Finally, she is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Freshman Carter Murphy, the son of Brandon and Christy Murphy of Trenton. In his first year at Mater Dei, Carter has enrolled in college-preparatory courses. Outside the classroom, he is a member of the basketball team and the football team. Finally, Carter is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Freshman Claire Thole, the daughter of Kevin and Jeana Thole of St. Rose. In her first year at Mater Dei, Claire has enrolled in college-preparatory courses, including English I Honors. Outside the classroom, she is a member of Art Club, band (concert band, marching band, pep band), indoor percussion, the newspaper staff, and Scholar Bowl. Finally, Claire is a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
